The Program             

     The author, Patricia Stahl, is a former first grade teacher who has taught both basal sight programs and phonetic programs.
     The
BUILDING BLOCKS TO READINGTM program was developed from Ms. Stahl's classroom experience to help guide classroom teachers, resource teachers, and homeschooling teachers in the process of teaching beginning reading.  The BUILDING BLOCKS TO READINGTM program teaches CVC short vowel pattern words first and includes daily writing dictation skills.
     Daily dictation and writing skills are 50% of the program.

BUILDING BLOCKS TO READINGTM

Teaches:
       A multi-sensory approach to the reading process: visual, auditory,
          tactile, and kinesthetic

        Sound-symbol (letter) relationship
        Left to right blending strategies
       Decoding (reading), encoding (writing), and spelling as one subject
       Letter names and sounds in structured sequence to introduce
          blended sounds,words, sentences, and stories

       Word, sentence, and story comprehension

Uses:
       Extra large manuscript print to help the beginning reader's eyes
          focus on individual letters
       Black and white illustrations without background and detail
       Continuous stroke manuscript writing
