Lesson Plan Example

Independent Activity:

  • Write the following four questions on the chalkboard.
         1. Who stubs his toe?
         2. What went buzz, buzz?
         3. Who plays in a tree?
         4. Where did the kids run?
  • Have the student answer the questions on primary writing paper using
complete sentences. Have the student copy the words that are needed
       from the story.
  • Writing:

  • Writing is combined with Independent Activity.
    Evaluation:
  • Did the student decode the CVV long vowel pattern words without difficulty?
  • Did the student answer the four questions in complete sentences without difficulty?
  • Teacher Check:

    1. Comprehension: Is the student able to answer orally who, what, where, when and why questions?
    2. When reading silently, does the student keep the head straight and read with both eyes?
    3. Does the student's head stay still while eyes track from left to right?
     4. Does the student move the marker down to the next line correctly or does the student need a finger for eye tracking? If the student is not using a triangular marker and uses a finger to track words, change to a triangular marker. The triangular marker keeps the student's place on each letter. Often a beginning reader's eyes need to pinpoint the exact letter that is being decoded.
    5. Is the student's desk or table the correct height to ensure proper posture for the student?
    6. When the student is writing, is the student holding the primary writing paper straight on the desk or table and not at an angle?
